3. south tower St. Stephen’s Cathedral

343 steps lead up to the highest church tower in Austria at 136.4m . Climbing the narrow staircase, which serves as both an ascent and descent, is an experience in itself. The view is worth the effort and nice souvenirs in the Türmerstube could be an incentive.

4.Schönbrunn Palace

Schönbrunn Palace, the former summer residence of the Habsburgs , is also worth seeing for families with children. Especially in the Hall of Mirrors, where the little six-year-old Mozart gave his first concert in front of the imperial family. In the Children’s Museum , the little ones can then transform themselves into emperor’s children and try on clothes and wigs.

5. zoo Schönbrunn

The real highlight for families with children is, of course, the Schönbrunn Zoo, the oldest zoo in the world still in existence. It was founded by the Habsburgs in 1752 and about 700 species of animals are at home here. Elephants, giraffes, lions, polar bears, panas, koalas feel very comfortable in the imperial ambience.

Near Schönbrunn Palace is the Technical Museum. It offers free admission for children and young people up to under 19! A real treat for those interested in technology , which will hopefully cover many of the little ones’ why questions.

7. house of the sea

Those who are more interested in the sea creatures are in good hands at the House of the Sea . Finding Nemo can be played here. The shark tank is scary, but the glass tunnel protects. Little monkeys also cavort here and the roof terrace invites to a fantastic view of Vienna. The House of the Sea is located in a former flak tower, and a museum still bears witness to wartime Vienna.

8. prater and ferris wheel

The amusement park (also called “Wurstelprater”) is free and you pay per attraction. The highlight is of course the Ferris wheel with a beautiful view over Vienna. Chain carousel, Autodrom, Liliputbahn for the very little ones, elevated tracks for the bigger ones provide fun & action.

9. natural history museum

In the Dinosaur Hall of the Natural History Museum (NHM) , these giant flying birds come alive again, it seems. All the animals in stuffed form can be seen here. The small elephant figure at the entrance already makes curious.

11. café Neko – the cat café

What child does not like to pet cats? At Café Neko (Neko means cat in Japanese) you can combine a coffee break with petting cats . It is very centrally located, just a few minutes walk from St. Stephen’s Cathedral.

13. children’s farm at Cobenzl

Sheep, goats, pigs rabbits, geese and turkeys may be petted and fed here. A paradise for children on four hectares. Farm tours are offered. But you can also learn about herbs, climate, plants and children will be delighted. The Cobenzl estate also offers a beautiful view of Vienna.

14. Lainzer Tiergarten with Hermes Villa

Lots of wild boars running around freely in the Lainzer Tiergarten. It is a publicly accessible nature reserve in the west of Vienna. The Vienna Forest makes up part of the area. You can go hiking and see deer, roe deer, salamanders and maybe wild boar. The little ones can let off steam at several forest playgrounds. Nature trails inform the inquisitive about the Vienna forest. Again and again there are great views of Vienna. In the middle of it, is the Hermes Villa , once built for Empress Elisabeth as a dream castle, the building can still be visited today.

15. Danube Island

Fun for the whole family means the Danube Island. Right next to the U1 station Donauinsel is the world’s largest connected trampoline facility. On 40 fields the children can let off steam until exhaustion. Furthermore, there is a family bathing beach , a water playground, a high ropes climbing course, restaurants, toilet facilities. The island is also ideal for a self-brought picnic with loved ones.
